Privacy Policy for Credibility Analyzer
Last Updated: 2026-09-05
Introduction
Credibility Analyzer ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Credibility Analyzer browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, and Safari) collects, uses, and protects your information.
What We Process When You Run an Analysis
When you explicitly start an analysis (toolbar button or context menu), the extension may process:
- Page Content: Text content from the page or selection you asked to analyze
- URL Information: The page URL (optional, if you enable “Include URL context”)
- Analysis Results: Credibility scores, summaries, and justifications shown to you
- Settings You Enter: API keys and preferences stored in your browser’s extension storage
What We DON'T Collect
- Personal identity information (name, email, address, etc.) as a product account
- Browsing history outside of analyses you initiate
- Payment information
- Analytics, advertising, or tracking profiles
The extension author does not operate a backend that stores your page content. Processing is either on-device (Chrome Gemini Nano only) or via third-party AI APIs you configure with your own keys.
- Extract and analyze content for credibility assessment and summarization
- Generate credibility scores (1–10) with explanations
- Show results in the extension UI
Depending on the model you select:
- Gemini Nano (Chrome only): On-device processing via Chrome’s Prompt API
- Gemini Flash / Claude / OpenAI: Page content (and optionally URL) is sent to that provider using your API key
Data Storage and Security
- API keys and preferences are stored in browser extension storage
- Analysis results are shown in the UI and are not uploaded to servers controlled by Credibility Analyzer
- Network calls go only to the AI providers you enable (and a small public fact-check asset host when used)
Third-Party Services
When you choose an online model, content you submit is transmitted to that provider under their privacy policy:
- Google Gemini —
generativelanguage.googleapis.com
- Anthropic Claude —
api.anthropic.com
- OpenAI —
api.openai.com
Optional credibility reference data may be fetched from evergreen-labs.org. Gemini Nano is not offered in Firefox or Safari builds.
Your Rights and Choices
- Choose which AI model to use
- Disable or uninstall the extension at any time
- Clear stored API keys from Settings
- Leave “Include URL context” off if you do not want the URL sent with online analyses
Use the developer contact on the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, or Mac App Store listing for Credibility Analyzer.
Note: Earlier versions of this policy described a Gemini Nano–only, local-only product. The current product also supports user-configured cloud AI APIs.
